Abjection

Material: Acrylic and ink and pencil on canvas

Date: October 2025

This self portrait is a process of subtraction, painted in an attempt to process the abject self. I bI place myself in the architecture of a sufi madrasa, draped in the hijab. The creative expression begins with pencil lines the move into rhythmic and rapid movements of applying and subtracting paint in the same way one outlines an identity and filters through to its source. The result is muted, bleeding hue of blue and black ink, where I see its truth connected to the source. Is a poignant alignment like a bridge between the landscapes of my internal and external narrative that is raw, contained and carrying only my own data. A testament of my expression within.
