Silent Eye

In my painting Silent Eye the horse represents, like poetry, the untamed emotion and freedom I wish for a loved one I have lost. It’s a visual representation of my own wound as it dances with an emotional landscape of ambivalence and desire. Using a monochromatic palette to play with the void of being left in the silence and simultaneous feeling of passionate love. It’s raw ethereal turbulence is shown in the expressive urgency of action in its vivid colour and contrasting lines. The monochromatic tones allow me to explore the tension in my emotions, to slow them down and isolate their complexity. It has muted layers which contrast the intense vivid colours of action showing serene layers of tone as an ambivalence allowing me to explore multiple emotions and create tension within these relationships. Using contrasting lines allows me to be raw in the loudness or subtleness of how I use shadow with the light. Ultimately, I am revealing an unusual tranquillity in the chaos of the emotions and allowing the view to reveal and invite freedom in the experience. The element of words in the painting is washed in drops of water like tears and they mirror the meaning of the words in the painting ‘heaven cries’. In my process I find words even more urgent and volcanic in their expression and urgency to be revealed. They flow like rivers and are the essence from the subconscious. Words are as an epicentre for the creation as it is spoken into action. The immersion of them within a painting allows for a slowing down of the primordial development within their meaning using the elements of space, colour, line, shape and texture.
